Building My Garage Rack- The page is WORK IN PROGRESS!!!!

Objective:
I wanted to build a simple looking but classic appearing rack made of solid wood for the garage. I need to park my Subaru along side and underneath the boards while not taking up anymore of my girlfriends space. By using larger pieces of wood I found that prices were reasonable, no unsightly brackets were needed, the racks are very strong, and most of all it gives an appearance of quality which was needed since I was stacking even more of my toys in OUR garage. So with space constraints, 8 surfboards, and quality assurance watching me I made this:

Parts:
2- 4x4x8 Douglas Fir $5 each
2- 1 3/4x10 Douglas Fir poles $6 each
4- Galvanized 6" screws with Hex Heads $2
1- Stud finder
1- 3/4" bore drill bit
1- 1/2" drill bit
1- Machine Press Drill (*this was mandatory)
1- Reciprocal drill
1- socket wrench to tighten screws
tape measure, sand paper, pencil, and three beers
work time: approx 2 hours.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Measure 4x4 height, find studs
Cut wood

Measure and mark holes every 12 in apart starting from 12 in from the top.
Using Machine Press drill holes 31/2" deep with a 15 degree angle.

Using 1/2 drill bit drill two hole on each 4x4 all the way straight through to fasten 4x4's to wall studs.
Measure off the nearest wall at the top and bottom or use a level (I didn't have one) and level the 4x4's vertical.
Using the galvanized screws and the socket wrench screw the 4x4's into the studs in the wall.

By using larger poles as pegs to hold the boards you will not need to cover them with foam. After all, if i was going to cover the wood with foam I could have used another method.
Cut 8 pieces from each pole approx 22" long (your requirements may very) and sand the ends for clean insertion.

Stick the newly made pegs into the holes and your done. You can add and removes pegs as you need.
